MANILA, Philippines — Transport group Manibela will be extending its strike until today, as it pushes for the rollback of fuel prices.

Manibela president Mar Valbuena told The STAR that fare hikes will become pointless if fuel prices continue to go up.

“If authorities grant a fare increase, its value will be lost to the oil price hikes,” Valbuena said.

He noted that Manibela’s P2 fare hike petition, along with the call for a P10 hike from Piston, is still being reviewed by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.

To help ease the burden on the public transportation sector, the Department of Transportation is reviewing the scope of the current P10 per liter fuel subsidy program.
