‘Manila Water supply sufficient’

MANILA, Philippines — Water supply in the east zone of Metro Manila will remain sufficient amid El Niño, according to Manila Water.

At yesterday’s Kapihan sa Manila Bay news forum, Manila Water spokesman Jeric Sevilla said the completion of two projects can help ease their dependence on Angat Dam this year.

“We are expecting the completion of the East Bay Phase 2 project. This will add 240 million liters per day, coming from the eastern side of Laguna de Bay… also the Kaysakat Water Treatment project, which will add 200 ml/d,” Sevilla said.

Amid the continuous increment of water level due to monsoon rains, Sevilla said Angat Dam needs to reach the target of 210 to 212 meters by year-end.

The target should be reached to ensure sufficient supply throughout 2027, he said.

Experts earlier said the effects of El Niño are expected to intensify in the last quarter of the year and extend to the first half of 2027.
