Angat Dam’s elevation improves

MALOLOS, Bulacan, Philippines — Angat Dam’s water elevation has slightly increased above its critical level of 160 meters, after water allocation for the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) was reduced.
The Bulacan disaster risk reduction and management council reported that as of 11 a.m. yesterday, the water level in Angat was 160.34 meters, up by 38 centimeters from the previous day’s 159.96 meters.
In a text message to The STAR, Sevillo David Jr., executive director of the National Water Resources Board (NWRB), said that water allocation for MWSS this month will be reduced to 48 cubic meters per second from 50 cms in June.
Earlier, the NWRB advised the public to conserve water due to the declining elevation in Angat and the threat of El Niño.
Due to the critical water level in Angat, irrigation supply for 25,000 hectares of palay farms in Central Luzon has been put on hold.
