MANILA, Philippines — Police will remain on major roads and transport hubs as millions of travelers return from the provinces following the Holy Week break.

No major incidents have been reported during the long weekend, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).

“There were some cases related to road and beach safety, but nothing that significantly affected our overall security preparations,” PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said over the weekend.

Over 98,000 police officers were mobilized nationwide for the Lenten break.

Travelers should avoid road rage and “refrain from driving if under the influence of alcohol or not feeling well,” Nartatez said.

Roadworthiness inspections of public utility vehicles were conducted by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

Some drivers tested positive for shabu following the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency’s inspection at bus terminals and transport hubs.

A bus firm with a franchise for North Luzon travels has been issued a show-cause order by the LTFRB after video footage showed a passenger bus disregarding traffic lights.
