San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora receives futsal balls from Philippine Sports Commission officials over the weekend.

MANILA, Philippines — The city government of San Juan, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and Philippine Football Federation (PFF) launched a grassroots futsal program on Aug. 29 to introduce the sport to children.

Under the one-year program, the PSC will fund the initiative while the PFF will train local coaches and provide technical support.

The PSC turned over 120 futsal balls and 20 pairs of futsal goals to the city. It will fund training for local coaches.

According to San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora, young participants will train in their respective barangays two to three times a week.

The first cycle will have 12 sessions, followed by a futsal league tournament, another 12-session training cycle and a second tournament.
