Marikina launches bike-to-work challenge
MANILA, Philippines — In response to the fuel price hikes, the Marikina government is encouraging city hall employees to use bicycles in going work.
Mayor Marjorie Ann Teodoro yesterday launched “Padyak Papasok: Bike to Work,” a challenge to local government workers to use alternative modes of transportation during the oil crisis.
“Marikina is a bike-friendly city. Gusto nating lalo pa itong palakasin,” Teodoro said in a statement.
Running until December 2026, city hall offices and departments will compete to record the highest number of employees who bike to work.
Teodoro said the department with the largest percentage of employees who biked to work would receive awards and incentives.
The initiative is also an opportunity to further develop the city’s biking culture and infrastructure while advancing mobility among residents.
Teodoro instructed the city bikeways office to ensure that all end-of-trip facilities for employees are functional.
