Landslide kills two in Sorsogon during 'Ada' rains
MANILA, Philippines — Two people have been reported dead due to Tropical Storm Ada (international name: Nokaen), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.
In its report on Sunday, January 18, the council said two fatalities were confirmed, with no reports of injuries or missing persons.
Te deaths were caused by a landslide in Matnog, Sorsogon, triggered by heavy rains brought by the storm, the NDRRMC reported.
A total of 10,249 individuals, or 7,170 families, were affected across two regions, five provinces, and 19 barangays, the council said.
Authorities also reported 297 displaced individuals, while 82 people were preemptively evacuated in Region 7 and the Caraga region.
Flooding was reported in 71 areas.
Infrastructure, transport affected. The NDRRMC said 44 road sections and three bridge sections were affected by the storm.
A total of 82 seaports were also impacted, leaving 7,263 passengers, 2,728 rolling cargoes, 18 vessels, and seven motorbancas stranded.
The estimated cost of government assistance provided to affected families has reached P547,765.
As of 11 a.m., the state weather bureau PAGASA said Ada was located about 140 kilometers northeast of Virac, Catanduanes.
