Kanlaon Volcano emits ash anew

MANILA, Philippines — Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island released ash again yesterday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported.
Phivolcs said the ash emission began at 5:54 a.m. and ended six minutes later.
“This event generated grayish plumes that rose approximately 75 meters above the crater before drifting southwest, as recorded by the Kanlaon Volcano Observatory-Canlaon City camera,” Phivolcs said.
The observatory also shared a time-lapse video of the activity.
Phivolcs noted that Alert Level 2 (increased unrest) remains in effect to signify that Kanlaon is exhibiting abnormal activity and could experience sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions.
Entry into the four-kilometer permanent danger zone and flying near the volcano remain prohibited.
On Sunday, Phivolcs recorded 26 volcanic earthquakes and emissions of 2,427 tons of sulfur dioxide. Weak plumes rising to 100 meters were also observed drifting southwest and south-southwest.
The agency has urged local governments and the public to monitor developments closely and follow prescribed safety measures amid ongoing volcanic activity.
