Mother gets 15 years for online sexual exploitation

MANILA, Philippines — For peddling her own daughter for online sexual exploitation, a mother was sentenced to 15 years in prison by a Malabon Regional Trial Court.
The woman was found guilty for violation of Republic Act 9208 or the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act, as amended, and RA 11930, the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children and Anti-Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials Act, according to the Anti-Cybercrime Group.
ACG director Brig. Gen. Bernard Yang said the woman was also fined P500,000.
Yang said the girl’s mother was arrested on Aug. 17, 2024 after police received information that she was forcing her nine-year-old daughter to perform sexual acts online.
He added that the woman demanded P10,000 from every foreigner she transacted with.
Yang said the case should serve as warning to other parents who are using their children for money, adding that those “who exploit and abuse children will be held accountable and punished to the fullest extent of the law.”
Meanwhile, the Bureau of Immigration arrested a 66-year-old American for alleged involvement in the production and distribution of child exploitation materials, the BI reported yesterday.
The BI said Robin Hoyt Alderman was tagged as undesirable alien after the police Women and Child Protection Center reported his sexual activities with minors and the possession, production and distribution of child exploitation materials.
