CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga, Philippines — Police are looking into reports that several liters of oil have been spilled in the waters off Limay in Bataan.

Col. Marites Salvadora, Bataan police director, yesterday conducted an onsite investigation at the port of Lamao, where 10 to 15 liters of oil were reportedly spilled.

Salvadora said residents along Boulevard street in Barangay Lamao reported the incident to the Philippine Coast Guard and the Marine Environment Protection Enforcement and Response Unit.

Police and local officials as well as employees of concerned agencies yesterday conducted a cleanup and recovery operation in the area.

The workers used 20 sorbent pads and booms to mitigate the effects of the spill on the environment and marine species.

Probers have yet to determine the cause of the incident.
