Cop found dead at Iloilo police station

ILOILO CITY, Philippines —  A policeman was found dead with a gunshot to the head on the roof deck of the Barotac Nuevo police station in Iloilo yesterday morning.

The police staff sergeant, whose name was withheld until after his family is notified, bore a gunshot wound in the right side of the head, according to a report of the municipal police.

Investigation showed the victim’s body was found by his team leader who went to the roof deck at past 5 a.m. to supposedly get his ball cap.

The fatality was among the officers-on-duty at the station the night before he was found dead.

Maj. Rolando Araño, spokesman for the Iloilo police, said the team leader found the policeman in bed.

The victim’s service pistol and a bullet shell were found at the scene.

Araño said probers are eyeing suicide or accidental firing as the cause of death.

Investigation is ongoing.
