BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — A police officer and a candidate for a municipal council seat died in separate road accidents in Negros Occidental this week.

Pat. Kenneth Casuya of the Bacolod City police and John Espinosa, 54, of Pontevedra were declared dead on arrival in a hospital in La Carlota City.

Reports said Casuya was traveling in Barangay Baliwagan in San Enrique town on Thursday when his motorcycle overshot the road and crashed into a truck driven by Reymar Millena.

Meanwhile, Espinosa was traveling in Barangay Don Salvador Benedicto in Pontevedra when his motorcycle collided with an Isuzu truck driven by Jose Malicsi on Tuesday.

Investigation showed that Espinosa tried to overtake, causing his vehicle to collide with the truck.

Millena and Malicsi were taken to the San Enrique and Pontevedra police stations, respectively, for questioning.
