MANILA, Philippines — Up to 409 former combatants of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) have received financial aid under the government’s cash-for-work program, according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Alan Tanjusay, DSWD Undersecretary for inclusive sustainable peace and special concerns, said the beneficiaries were decommissioned combatants in Northern Mindanao and Soccsksargen who paticipated in cash-for-work activities.

The distribution of the financial assistance was conducted in Marawi, Lanao del Sur on Dec. 10, where a total of 227 former combatants from the province received P9,000 each.

The aid distribution was conducted in coordination with the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity, and the Philippine Army.

Tanjusay urged the beneficiaries to use the cash grants responsibly and continue supporting peace-building initiatives of the government, particularly in vulnerable communities.
