CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines — The Philippine Army has named Brig. Gen. Adonis Ariel Orio as the new 8th Infantry (Storm Troopers) Division based here, replacing retiring Maj. Gen. Camilo Ligayo.

Maj. Gen. Leodevic Quinid, acting Philippine Army chief, presided over the change of command ceremony at Camp General Vicente Lucban. He commended all the commanders of the Storm Troopers for outstanding accomplishments and for working to make the military a reliable partner of Filipinos.

In his acceptance speech, Orio focused on the duties of the Army to maintain peace in the region, especially in the coming elections.

“We must prepare to execute our duty, with unwavering resolve, ensuring that every citizen, with our joint operation, exercise the right to vote without intimidation or disruption. We shall remain vigilant, as guardians of the democratic process, against any disruptive efforts by the communist terrorist groups,” Orio said.
