MANILA, Philippines — Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla yesterday issued a stern warning to drug syndicates, declaring a “no mercy” approach following the arrest of a suspected drug pusher operating within the Malacañang complex in San Miguel, Manila.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) led the apprehension in collaboration with the Presidential Security Group (PSG), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and local police.

During the operation, authorities confiscated drug paraphernalia, including nine heat-sealed plastic sachets containing a white crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu.

The suspect, identified as Edgar Ventura, was apprehended at his residence in San Miguel, inside the Malacañang complex.

Ventura will face charges under Republic Act 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Remulla lauded the NBI’s swift action and highlighted the crucial roles of the PSG, PDEA and local law enforcement in facilitating the arrest.

“Their commitment to combatting illegal drugs is a vital step toward safer communities. This arrest serves as a testament to the NBI’s professionalism and its pivotal role as a partner in our justice system,” Remulla stated, stressing that collaborative efforts across agencies are critical to dismantling such illegal operations.

Remulla urged the public to help identify potential accomplices of the suspect while reiterating the Department of Justice’s strong position against illegal drug activities. He gave assurance that the justice system would function with diligence and fairness to hold all involved parties accountable.

“The DOJ reaffirms its unwavering stance against illegal drugs, pledging to show no mercy in this fight. This administration is resolutely dedicated to eradicating the drug menace and ensuring the safety of our citizens,” Remulla said.
