Paris feat raises bar for Philippines sports

PARIS — In triumph and in defeat. 

Philippine Sports Commission chairman Richard Bachmann is with Team Philippines, proud with the determination and resolve the Nationals have shown in chase of glory for the country.

And Bachmann is grateful and lauding Team Philippines for its continued rise in the Olympics, the grandest stage of sporting battles on the planet.

“A new history has been written, and our success still grows as we prepare to seek even more victories. These accomplishments have truly inspired millions of Filipinos, demonstrating how sports can elevate our dreams and unite us,” said Bachmann.

“The Olympics is not even done as our golfers are still playing. Regardless of the results, we can confidently say that the overall performance of the country reflects everybody’s determination and passion to inspire more Filipinos to continuously raise the bar and connect to more people within the grassroots,” Bachmann also said.

Team Philippines is to fly home Monday, arriving in Manila Tuesday, bringing a haul of two golds and two bronzes – the greatest the country has ever achieved in a century of participation in the quadrennial games starting in 1924 in the same lovely city of Paris with a lone bet in sprinter David Nepomuceno.

Carlos Yulo winning two golds in gymnastics and Aira Villegas and Nesthy Petecio snaring bronzes in boxing comprised new Olympics milestones for Team Philippines topping the 1-2-1 gold-silver-bronze haul in Tokyo in 2021.

“While this year’s Olympic edition edged the number of medals held from Tokyo, what stands out is the continued success of the Philippines in the Olympics,” said Bachmann.

“Congratulations to everyone, especially the athletes who represented us in the Paris Olympics! We assure you that all Filipinos will continue to keep on supporting as you build a lasting legacy for Philippine sports.”
