Cop shot dead at Basilan checkpoint

MANILA, Philippines —  A policeman was killed by unidentified motorcycle riders at a checkpoint in Lamitan City, Basilan on Tuesday night.

Pat. Khalid Sali Ahmad of the First Basilan Provincial Mobile Force Company and his team were manning the checkpoint in Barangay Colonia when the assailants refused to pull over.

Initial investigation showed Ahmad tried to stop the motorcycle riders, but was instead shot by the backrider.

Ahmad was declared dead on arrival at the Lamitan District Hospital.

Two bullet shells for a caliber .45 pistol were recovered at the scene.
