Quakes rock Eastern Samar town
MANILA, Philippines — Earthquakes of magnitudes 4.6 and 4.3 rocked the town of San Policarpio, Eastern Samar before dawn yesterday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
Phivolcs said the magnitude 4.6 quake occurred at 3:32 a.m. and its epicenter was located 103 kilometers south of San Policarpio.
It was followed by a magnitude 4.3 quake at 3:52 a.m. some 89 kilometers south of the same town, state seismologists said.
Both quakes were tectonic in origin and were not expected to cause damage or generate aftershocks.
Earlier in the day, earthquakes of magnitudes 4.3 and 4 rocked the towns of Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur and Sarangani in Davao Occidental, respectively.
