Abby distributes laptops for teachers, students

MANILA, Philippines — Ahead of the opening of classes on June 16, Makati Mayor Abby Binay on Tuesday distributed laptops for teachers and staff of public schools in the city.
Up to 1,410 laptops will be given to public school teachers and teaching-related personnel across the city.
The city government also distributed school supplies, emergency kits and other essentials for public school students.
Binay said the expanded benefits program aims to ease the financial burden of parents.
“We want to ensure that students from elementary to senior high school are equipped to begin classes with confidence,” she said.
As part of Makati’s disaster preparedness initiative, the city is also providing 13,698 emergency go bags, 12,179 adult hard hats and 5,650 child-sized hats for students.
Each go bag contains essential supplies such as water, food bar, blanket, hand crank flashlight, a whistle, face masks, gauze pads and wound gel.
Meanwhile, the Muntinlupa government has started distributing “Balik Eskwela” packages to nearly 100,000 public school students.
Mayor Ruffy Biazon led the ceremonial rollout of the initiative, which is now on its third year under his administration.
The program covers students from early education to senior high school in all public schools in Muntinlupa.
Each package contains a backpack, notebooks, writing supplies and a pair of black leather shoes, alternating annually with “MUNwalk” sneakers to cater to students’ varying needs.
