16 nabbed for fuel pilferage

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga, Philippines — Sixteen people were arrested for allegedly engaging in fuel pilferage in Lubao, Pampanga on Wednesday night.
The raid stemmed from a complaint filed by residents regarding the stench coming from a compound housing an oil depot in Barangay Prado Siongco, according to Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo, Central Luzon police director.
Responding police officers and members of the Bureau of Fire Protection caught the suspects trading and pilfering petroleum products, Fajardo said.
Aside from petroleum products, the team seized a tanker truck, pumping machines, cash and other items at the scene.
During investigation, some of the suspects disclosed the existence of another compound located in nearby Barangay Lourdes, where a similar illegal operation was ongoing.
The raiding team proceeded to the area and caught several people trading and pilfering petroleum products.
Authorities said they seized several containers and two funnels as well as tanker and dump trucks in the area.
The suspects were held at the Lubao police detention cell.
