MANILA, Philippines —  Concerned over the welfare of the youth, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has declared a crackdown on vendors and retailers who are selling vape products to minors.

PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. issued the directive on Wednesday after a meeting with Health Secretary Ted Herbosa.

Herbosa sought the PNP’s assistance in the enforcement of Republic Act 11900 or the Vaporized Nicotine and Non-Nicotine Products Regulation Act.

He pointed out that under the law, people aged 18 and above are allowed to use vapes, but there are minors who are hooked on vaporized nicotine and non-nicotine products.

Acting on Hebosa’s call, Acorda instructed the PNP Directorate for Operations to develop operational guidelines on apprehending people selling vapes to minors.

Acorda also ordered the Directorate for Police Community Relations to launch an awareness campaign to educate the public, particularly minors, about the harmful effects of vaping.

“We will be ensuring that arrests will be made,” he said.

Acorda also reminded PNP personnel that vapes and cigarettes are banned at police camps.

“As police officers, you should set an example to the public,” he said.
