Teen drowns in Rizal

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — A high school student drowned in a river in San Mateo, Rizal on Saturday.

Reports said the victim, identified as alias Edgardo, 17, was swept away by the water current as he was swimming with his friends in Malaegno River in Barangay Silangan.

The victim’s friends sought the help of a local rescue team, which rushed him to a hospital.

Edgardo was declared dead on arrival at the Amang Rodriquez Memorial Medical Center.

His brother said the group went to the river at around 1:30 a.m.
