DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Four people died in a collision involving two passenger vans in Toril district in this city yesterday morning.

The victims – identified as Mary Joy Abuda, Sherlyn Altimo, Edna Centena and Remie Centena – were declared dead in a hospital, police said.

Two others, Jennifer Santolan and Jessa Lastimoso, were rushed to a hospital for treatment of injuries.

Reports said the vehicles were traveling in opposite directions of the Davao-Digos Road in Barangay Binugao when they figured in the accident.

Probers expressed belief that one of the vehicles developed engine trouble, causing the driver, identified as Kadaffy Salik, to lose control of the wheel.

Salik’s vehicle reportedly swerved, causing it to collide with the van driven by Omar Lastimoso.

Police said the victims, who were returning home from an excursion, were passengers of Lastimoso.

Investigation is ongoing. — John Unson
