2 Pasig hotel execs charged over senior’s discount

Daphne Galvez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Two executives of a hotel in Pasig were charged by the city prosecutor’s office for not giving a senior citizen her 20-percent discount.

In a 22-page resolution, the Pasig prosecutor’s office charged the hotel’s president and finance director with violating Section 4(a)(7) of the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010 and Article 116 of the Consumer Act of the Philippines.

The case was filed with the Pasig Metropolitan Trial Court and the bail was set at P36,000 each.

The charges stemmed from a complaint filed by senior citizen Melinda Rada after the hotel did not give her the 12-percent value-added tax exemption and 20-percent senior citizen’s discount on her stay at the establishment in November 2022.

The prosecutor said the hotel president’s claim that the failure to give the discount was never intentional is immaterial for violations of the two laws.

The prosecutor said the hotel failed to show a permit from the Department of Trade and Industry allowing it to hold a promotion for Rada’s hotel stay, which is “fatal to the hotel.”
