MANILA, Philippines — The city governments of Makati and Taguig separately announced that they are offering free health services to the residents of the enlisted men’s barrio or “embo” barangays.

In a Facebook post, the Makati City government announced yesterday that the Ospital ng Makati would offer free consultations to outpatients from the “embo” barangays.

It added that laboratory and diagnostic services would remain free for “embo” senior citizens with valid identification cards.

On Thursday, the city government also announced that its health centers would provide free consultations to “embo” residents.

It noted that its health centers are open on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In a separate statement, the Taguig City government announced on Thursday that its Home Health and Doctor on Call services are now available to “embo” residents.

Home Health, which operates on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., is a medical service offered to bedridden patients.

The Doctor on Call, on the other hand, is a 24/7 medical hotline that Taguig residents may call for emergency or other medical services.

Makati earlier announced the closure of its health centers in the “embo” barangays due to expired licenses to operate.

Apart from this, Makati also announced that “embo” residents who are Yellow and Blu Card holders are no longer qualified for its subsidized healthcare services.

Makati said the orders are in compliance with the 2021 and 2023 rulings of the Supreme Court granting Taguig jurisdiction over the 10 “embo” barangays.

These are Barangays Cembo, South Cembo, Comembo, East Rembo, West Rembo, Pembo, Pitogo, Post Proper Northside, Post Proper Southside and Rizal.
