Exhibits to honor 2 cardinals

Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Manila Cathedral will hold two exhibits this week to honor its two former Manila archbishops, Jaime Cardinal Sin and Rufino Cardinal Santos.

In its Facebook page, the Manila Cathedral posted that they would be holding an exhibit on Aug. 31 to remember Sin’s 95th birthday. On Sept. 3, the cathedral would mark Santos’ 50th death anniversary.

Antipolo Bishop Ruperto Santos will preside over the mass at 12:10 p.m. on Aug. 31, which will be followed with the blessing of Sin’s tomb and the opening of the exhibit at the Blessed Souls Chapel.

Sin is regarded as one of the architects of the bloodless 1986 EDSA People Power that ended the 20-year rule of then president Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

On Sept. 3, the Manila Cathedral will hold another exhibit to commemorate the 50th death anniversary of Santos, the first Filipino cardinal.

Manila Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus Teodoro Buhain will celebrate the 10 a.m. mass, which will be followed by the opening of the exhibit at the Nuestra Señora del Pilar Chapel.

Among the legacies left behind by Santos was the establishment of Caritas Manila and Radio Veritas as well as the building of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Minor Seminary in Makati City, the Pius XII Catholic Center in Manila and the Villa San Miguel.
