LTO to crack down on unsafe vehicles

MANILA, Philippines — Defective vehicles will be impounded by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) amid its campaign against unregistered cars and expired licenses.
Vehicles with broken windshields, exposed or hanging parts, bald tires, excessive emissions or major visible structural damage will be impounded by August, LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II said yesterday.
Owners of impounded vehicles will be fined P10,000 if they fail to register their vehicles after a roadworthiness inspection, Mendoza said.
Motorcycle lane
Meanwhile, motorcycle taxi service provider Angkas has lauded the proposed lane for motorcycle taxis and delivery riders along Commonwealth Avenue.
A dedicated lane for “livelihood-based riders” along Commonwealth Avenue will be piloted by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.
“We are grateful to the MMDA for listening and for taking steps to protect commuters and recognize the dignity of livelihood riders,” Angkas chief executive officer George Royeca said.
