SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – Four foreigners rescued off the coast of Calayan Island in Cagayan on Sunday were turned over to the Bureau of Immigration yesterday.

Swedish national Sazid Hazan Shiek, 19, and Peruvians Richard Ventura, 48; Victor Palomino, 57, and Ulian Oswaldo Ventura, 52, were rescued by Philippine Coast Guard personnel, Ensign Jessa Pauline Villegas of the PCG-Northern Luzon said.

The four reportedly went sailing in the Pacific Ocean in December last year, but their boat encountered a mechanical problem and ran out of fuel.

Villegas said the foreigners are all in good physical condition. No illegal items were found in the boat, she added.

Meanwhile, in Basilan, the PCG rescued 68 passengers and crewmembers of a motorboat that encountered engine trouble in the waters off Panducan Point yesterday.

A PCG-manned Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources vessel conducted search and rescue operations.

The MV Sulna, with its 57 passengers and 11 crewmembers, were towed to the Zamboanga port.
