CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — The crime volume in Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) dropped by 23 percent in December, the regional police office reported over the weekend.
Records from the Mimaropa police Investigation and Detective Management Division showed 274 criminal incidents occurred from Dec. 1 to 25, 2022.
The figure is 23 percent lower than the 357 incidents recorded during the same period in 2021, according to Mimaropa police director Brig. Gen. Sidney Hernia.
Among the incidents that showed a remarkable decrease were physical injury, 45 percent; rape, 44.44 percent, and carjacking, 33.33 percent.
Hernia said he ordered all groundcommanders in the region to intensify police visibility in areas frequented by the public.
He commended his men for the well-managed peace and order situation during the holidays.
