‘Joy in Sight’ optical program underway in Quezon City
MANILA, Philippines — Staying true to their promise, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and District 2 Councilor Mikey Belmonte partnered with Sarabia Opticals for a free eye check-up and distribution of prescription glasses for students.
The optical mission, dubbed “Joy in Sight,” was held in Bagong Silangan Elementary School in District 2 and San Bartolome High School in District 5 in coordination with the offices of District 5 on Friday Rep. Patrick Michael Vargas and Councilor Joseph Visaya.
“The focus of the Joy in Sight optical mission is to provide general eyecare for our school-going population, because we should start paying attention to optical health of kids, especially given the amount of time they spend in front of their computer monitors, TVs and the screens of their gadgets. If left unchecked, these may lead to long-term eye problems, or worse, may even be irreversible and eventually affect their productivity in school,” Mikey Belmonte said.
Belmonte and Sarabia Opticals have been working together in extending health services to District 2 constituents, especially during the height of pandemic, wherein the eyecare of frontliners was the main concern.
He said the Joy in Sight program “is another testament to the values that our office and Sarabia upholds. By providing free eye check-ups and free prescription eyeglasses to our school-going population, we help bring our children closer to achieving their goals, leaving a lasting positive impact on the future of the city.”
The Joy in Sight program in Bagong Silangan Elementary and San Bartolome High Schools was able to provide prescription glasses to 5,980 beneficiaries.
