MANILA, Philippines — The city government of Parañaque has designated a protected lane for bicycles and motorcycles along Dr. A. Santos Avenue.

Members of the city’s engineering team on Friday set up permanent markings along the road.

Mayor Edwin Olivarez said they fast-tracked the establishment of the lane as more people shift to bicycles as a mode of transportation.

Public transportation is prohibited under modified enhanced community quarantine. The MECQ in Metro Manila and other nearby provinces is expected to be lifted tomorrow.

City public information office chief Mar Jimenez said the inner lane of the 12-kilometer avenue would be allocated to private vehicles. The center lane will be assigned to delivery trucks, vans and other and long vehicles.

The outer lane would be used by bicycles and motorcycles starting this month.

Jimenez said there is no need for concrete or plastic barriers in the designated bike lane.
