MANILA, Philippines — Two members of the Maute group surrendered to the military in Piagapo, Lanao del Sur over the weekend.
Farhan Salik, 20, and Alimoden Maunada, 38, turned over their caliber .30 M1 Garand rifles, Lt. Col. Rafman Altre, 82nd Infantry Battalion (IB) commander, said.
Altre said Moro Islamic Liberation Front commander Salic Dimasangkay and Usman Amboloto, chairman of Barangay Dado in Balindong, intervened for the surrender of the militants.
On Friday, a Maute militant was killed in an enccounter with soldiers of the 82nd IB at the border of Piagapo.
Four improvised explosive devices, two kilos of chemicals used to make bombs and an M16 rifle were among those recovered at the scene.
