P100 million road project in South Cotabato almost complete

Jose Rodel Clapano - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A road project in Koronadal City, South Cotabato worth P100 million is expected to be completed in April.

Basir Ibrahim, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)–Soccsksargen regional director, said the widening of the Marbel-Makar Road is expected to cut travel time between the cities of Koronadal and General Santos.

Ibrahim said widening of Bulok Bridge is expected to be finished this month while a bridge in Barangay Palian worth P80 million bridge would be completed in March.

He said construction of the P10-million Saravia Bridge was finished last month.

“Wider roads and bridges will provide not only convenience to the public but also ensure faster delivery of goods in the area,” Ibrahim said.

Meanwhile, the DPWH said construction of a flood control project along Ampayon River in Butuan City worth P101.8 million is 89 percent complete.

Emil Sadain, DPWH undersecretary for unified project management office operations and technical services, said the 780.8-meter concrete slope protection aims to improve waterways, minimize flooding and safeguard nearby infrastructure and properties.

Sadain said the structure would control water from Ampayon River that flows from the upland areas in Butuan City.

“The DPWH aims to fully develop this area as flood-free because its is being eyed as the city’s industrial zone,” Sadain said.
