ORION, Bataan, Philippines — The National Housing Authority (NHA) will construct houses worth P1 billion for at least 1,089 families who lost their homes in a fire that hit Sitio Depensa, Barangay Capunitan in this town on Jan. 29.
Mayor Antonio Raymundo Jr. told The STAR yesterday that the NHA is just waiting for the technical staff endorsements to start the project in a 7.5-hectare government property in Sitio Sibul 2, Barangay Daang Pare.
A four-hour fire, which was reportedly caused when a lighted matchstick that two boys, aged two and three, had played with landed on a gasoline container and exploded.
A fisherman died while 900 houses were destroyed.
Orion Mayor Antonio Raymundo said a public school, market, church as well as police and community centers would be built near the housing project.
