Storm Yutu will not affect Philippines — PAGASA
MANILA, Philippines — A severe tropical storm over the Pacific Ocean, with international name Yutu, is not expected to hit the Philippines, the state weather bureau said yesterday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Yutu was spotted 2,670 kilometers east of the Visayas as of 3 p.m. yesterday.
Yutu, which will be named Rosita once inside the country, packed winds of 110 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 130 kph. It was forecast to move west-northwest at a speed of 15 kph.
PAGASA senior weather specialist Chris Perez said Yutu is ”very far” and has no direct effect on any part of the country.
Meanwhile, Perez said an intertropical convergence zone would continue to bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Western and Central Visayas, Caraga and Davao regions.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will continue to experience fair weather with isolated rains due to thunderstorms.
