Ex-village chief in drug list caught in Caloocan

MANILA, Philippines — A former barangay captain in Ilocos Sur and a high-value target in President Duterte’s drug watchlist was arrested in Caloocan on Tuesday night.

Renato “Atong” Tengsico, 72, was served an arrest warrant by intelligence and drug enforcement operatives of the Caloocan and Ilocos Sur police.

He was sentenced to life for illegal drugs by Ilocos Sur Regional Trial Court Branch 72 Judge Sixto Diompoc. He was served an arrest warrant at the Caldino apartments in Barangay 171, Bagumbong, where he went into hiding since being out on bail in 2014.

Tengsico is the alleged leader of the “Tengsico-Cabreros Drug Group,” said to be behind the sale of illegal drugs in the second district of Ilocos Sur.

He is also a level two high value target in Duterte’s drug watchlist, according to Caloocan police chief Senior Superintendent Restituto Arcangel.

Tengsico was a barangay captain in Poblacion Norte, Ilocos Sur until he was arrested for possession of 11 grams of shabu in 2014 and convicted a year later, prober Police Officer 3 John Cezar Mendoza said.

Police also confiscated four sachets of shabu weighing five grams and worth P20,000 from the suspect during his arrest.
