Newly elected village chief slain

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — A newly elected barangay chairman was killed while his companion was wounded in an attack by two motorcycle-riding men in Balayan, Batangas on Saturday afternoon.

Jingo Sherwin Noche of Barangay Buhatan died at the scene while his companion, Vicente Perez, was taken to a hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds.

Noche and Perez were on their way to the village hall when the assailants shot them at around 1:30 p.m.

On the same day, a former barangay chairman was shot dead in Tayum, Abra.

Moises Tuazon, 64, former chairman of Barangay Dalaguisen in nearby Lagangilang town, was driving a tricycle in Tayum town when he was killed at around 6 a.m.

Police have yet to determine the motive for the killings.– Raymund Catindig
