LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines – At least 51 trees along the national road in Barangay Rawis in Legazpi City were cut on Saturday to pave the way for a road widening project.
Department of Environment and Natural Resources regional director Gilbert Gonzales issued a special permit to cut the trees last week, said Herleo Pavericio, technical services division head of Albay Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office.
Paverico said one narra, 20 agoho, three acacia and seven mango trees were among those cut.
“These trees had been there...even before the DENR had been organized,” said Paverico.
He said the Department of Public Works and Highways would provide 5,400 seedlings to replace the cut trees.
