Teacher dead, 16 hurt in Zamboanga mishap

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – A public school teacher died while 16 others were injured when a public utility vehicle rolled over in this city yesterday morning.

Sofia Dimawala, 59, of Ayala Elementary
School, was declared dead on arrival at a hospital, where the injured victims – including the driver – were brought for treatment, according to Chief Inspector Hingming Ladjaali, commander of city police Station 8.        

Ladjaali said the PUV, driven by Basher Salahiron, was running at top speed and tried to overtake another vehicle when it figured in an accident in Barangay Maasin at past 5 a.m.

Police said Salahiron was detained at the city police station 8 jail after receiving treatment.
