MAGUINDANAO, Philippines – Bomb experts on Thursday detonated about a ton of live explosive projectiles, landmines and roadside bombs the military seized in suspected lairs of the Bangsamoro Islamc Freedom Fighters.
The explosives were transported to the Army’s Camp Siongco in Datu Odin town in Maguindanao with the help of the Humanitarian Emergency Assistance and Relief Team of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and the Swiss Foundation for Mine Action.
The improvised explosive devices, including dozens of shoulder-fired grenades and mortar projectiles, were detonated by ordnance experts led by Col. Bernie Langub, director-in-charge of the Division Training School of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division.
Langub said the explosives were enough to flatten buildings.
Some of the explosives were dropped by military aircrafts on BIFF camps.
