DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Six persons died when a sport utility vehicle (SUV) collided with a truck in Barangay Lasang in this city on Saturday night.
The fatalities were identified as Jacinto Yamomo, Presentation Pilapil Yamomo, Jeoffrey Yamomo, Jovencia Pilapil, Fe Pilapil and Victoria Ogahayon, all residents of Pioneer Village, Digos City.
The victims were in a Mitsubishi Adventure (LFN 205), driven by Jacinto, that collided with a cement mixer truck along the Maharlika Highway.
The SUV reportedly tried to overtake another vehicle.
Truck driver Jaime Trazona surrendered to the police.
2 dead in Zambo mishap
Meanwhile, two persons died while 14 others were injured when a bus plunged into a ravine in Zamboanga City yesterday.
Case investigator Police Officer 1 Alvin Munsing said the Rural Transit Mindanao bus (JVH 919) was running at high speed when it fell into the ravine at the boundary of Barangays Mercedes and Pasobolong at around 4:30 a.m.
The bus, driven by Rogelio Bambao, first hit a motorcycle, killing its driver identified as Amelia Bucoy, 51. The bus then hit a house.
Passenger Raquel Solis was pinned under the bus when the vehicle fell into the ravine.
Bambao was unhurt while 14 of his passengers were taken to the Sanitarium Hospital in nearby Barangay Pasobolong for treatment.
Bambao told police that he fell asleep as he was driving.
In Pangasinan, a 22-year-old nurse died while two others were injured in a smashup of three vehicles in Dagupan City on Saturday.
Jennycel delos Santos, died while being treated at the Nazareth General Hospital, while Tristan dela Cruz, 23, also a nurse, and tricycle driver Rommel Ramos were taken to the Trauma Hospital for treatment.
The tricycle was traveling along Perez Boulevard when a van rear-ended it.
Ramos lost control of the wheel, causing the tricycle to slam into a passenger bus. – With Roel Pareño, Eva Visperas
