Cebu bishop: Sex change not necessary

MANILA, Philippines - Incoming Auxiliary Bishop of Cebu Jaime Florencio yesterday advised members of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) groups that sex change is not necessary.

Florencio of the Archdiocese of Palo in Leyte and former rector of the St. John the Evangelist School of Theology, told the CBCPNews that there is a need to analyze the reasons why some people decide to undergo a sex change.

He said people should not discriminate against those who identify themselves as members of LGBT community.

People, he said, should understand what pushes the LGBTs to decide to undergo a sex change.

The Archdiocese of Palo, through its spokesman Fr. Chris Arthur Militante, said the church does not discriminate against the LGBTs and welcomes anyone who considers themselves belonging to the group.

He said the church condemns homosexual acts.
