Maguindanao mayor, 2 others face raps over GSIS non-remittance

The Office of the Ombudsman investigates and prosecutes cases against government officials and personnel.

MANILA, Philippines — The Office of the Ombudsman indicted on Thursday a Maguindanao town mayor and two other local officials for their failure to remit Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) premiums in 2012.

Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales ordered the indictment of Matanong, Maguindanao mayor Nasser Imam, accountant Haron Ginta and treasurer Khaida Gampong for eight counts of violation of the provision of the GSIS Act of 1997.

Investigation showed that the Matanong mayor failed to remit to the GSIS the contributions from January 2012 to August 2012, affecting the loan privileges of the municipal employees as well as their share of the dividends for 2009.

The resolution said that Imam, Ginta and Gampong cannot be spared from liability since they are all involved in the collection of the contributions.
