Suspect in La Union councilor’s slay nabbed

BALAOAN, La Union, Philippines –Another suspect in the ambush of Bacnotan town councilor Onofre Almojuela was arrested in Barangay Pagleddegan here yesterday.

Roy Mique, 35, a resident of Barangay Butubut Sur is the alleged  leader of the Quirino gun-for-hire group, said Superintendent Eduardo Danguecan Jr., chief of the La Union police intelligence  group.

Prior to Mique’s arrest, police collared Robert Cardenas, a resident of Barangay Butubot Norte.

Police said Cardenas tried to resist arrest when he was served the warrant at a cottage in Cesmin Beach Resort in Barangay Pagdalagan.

Witnesses said Mique and Cardenas were the motorcycle-riding men who shot Almojuela while on his way home in Barangay Mabanengbeng in Bacnotan town on March 26, 2014.
