Slain soldiers in NPA clash given military honors

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Military honors were given yesterday to four soldiers of the Army’s 68th Infantry Battalion who were killed in an encounter with suspected New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas in San Fernando, Bukidnon last Wednesday.

A ceremony honoring Cpl. Ricardo Reyes and Pfcs. Rolando dela Rosa, John Pagba and Joven Campollo was held at the Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) headquarters at Camp Panacan here.

The soldiers were helping secure a road construction project in Barangay Makalungay when the rebels attacked them. They managed to prevent the burning of construction equipment being used in the project.

Eastmincom commander Lt. Gen. Aurelio Baladad and M/Gen. Eduardo Ano of Army’s 10th Infantry Division attended the ceremony.
