Law firm employee, wife shot dead in Manila

MANILA, Philippines - A law firm employee and his wife were shot dead inside an apartment in Manila, early Monday.

Ronaldo Batoto, 35, and his wife Nina, died from gunshot wounds in the shoulder and chest.

Initial police reports said that a tall man wearing a black jacket was seen leaving the couple's apartment on Geronimo Street in Sampaloc district at past 2 a.m.

Before the man left, a woman's scream was heard from the couple's apartment.

Police said that the lone assailant did not harm the couple's five-year-old child.

Crime scene investigators found seven empty shells from a .45 pistol from the victims' apartment.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive of the killing.
