Gunmen kidnap gas station owner's son in Zamboanga
ZAMBOANGA CITY - Gunmen grabbed a businessman from a gasoline station that his parents own in Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte, on Thursday afternoon.
Senior Inspector Joseph Ortega, spokesman of Police Regional Office 9 (PRO), identified the victim as Michael Sta. Teresa Co, 27, son of the owner of the Petron gas station in Barangay Poblacion.
The police official said four unidentified gunmen barged into the gasoline station's office at around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. The robbers seized the victim at gunpoint while emptying the cash register.
The suspects dragged Sta. Teresa into a waiting an unmarked vehicle and fled toward Barangay Latabon.
Policemen were able to locate the abandoned getaway vehicle in Barangay Balili at around 7 p.m.
Siocon Mayor Julius Lobrigas, a relative of the victim, said that witnesses saw the gunmen blowing up the vehicle's tire and transferring to a motorized banca.
Lobrigas said the kidnappers have yet to communicate with the victim's family.
