MIAA names new airport police chief

Dennis Carcamo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) has appointed a retired police official as its new Airport Police Department (APD) head.

MIAA general manager Jose Angel Honrado named retired Chief Superintendent Jesus Gordon Descanzo to replace Alger Tan, who resigned from the post last August.

Honrado said Descanzo's appointment as APD chief took effect last Friday.

The airport official said Descanzo’s appointment need not be approved by the nine-man MIAA board of directors since the post is a "division office."

The post of assistant general managers are the ones that need to seek the board of directors' approval, the MIAA head said.

Last week, Descanzo bowed out from the police service last month after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56.

The MIAA has yet to announce the replacement of Salvador Penaflor, who resigned as MIAA assistant general manager for security and emergency early last month.
