3 killed in Laguna shooting

BIÑAN CITY, Laguna, Philippines – A police asset was killed in an attack staged by three motorcycle-riding gunmen in Barangay Canlalay the other day.

Two of the assailants were killed by responding police officers who happened to be nearby when Josefino Cerdena alias Asero, an asset of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 4A, was killed.

Superintendent Gran Simnar Semacio, town police chief, identified one of the two slain suspects as Rodel Brillo. He said the third suspect escaped on a motorcycle toward San Pedro town.

Semacio said Cerdena, his wife Sherly Belen and son, were on their way to the city proper when the suspects waylaid them at about 1:30 p.m.

Belen and her son survived after they ran away.

Police Officers 1 Jun Vilar of the Biñan police and Jose Zapata of the National Capital Region Police Office, responded and exchanged fires with the suspects killing two of them.

Semacio expressed belief the killing was work-related.
