3 killed in vendetta killings in Maguindanao

MAGUINDANAO, Philippines - Three members of two Moro clans locked in a “rido” were killed in vendetta killings in Parang, Maguindanao on Monday.

Senior Inspector Harry Gubat, chief of the Parang municipal police, identified the fatalities as relatives Rashib Abu, 40, Madrigal Ayunan, 38, and 37-year-old Mohaiden Macasasa.

Abu and Ayunan were having coffee together at a roadside house in Barangay Landasan in Parang when two men riding a motorcycle barged in and shot them with .45 pistols.

The assailants both wearing crash helmets left the scene after making sure that Abu and Ayunan are dead.

Ten hours later, two suspected relatives of Abu and Ayunan gunned down Macasasa in a public market in another village also in Parang.

Parang Mayor Ibrahim Ibay, chairman of the municipal peace and order council, said he has tapped traditional and religious leaders to help the police defuse the tension between the two clans.

Gubat said they have sent emissaries to convince the families of the three slain victims to cooperate with police investigators.
